向大厨学习

慢 | 第八洲:

So emulate famous chefs. They cook,
so they write cookbooks. What do youdo? What are your “recipes”? What’s your“cookbook”? What can you tell the worldabout how you operate that’s informative, educational, and promotional?

向大厨学习吧,他们烹饪美食,所以他们就写了美食书籍。你该做什么呢?你的“秘诀”是什么?你能向世人传授什么实用的、有教育意义的、有进步意义的知识呢?

You’ve probably heard of Emril Lagasse,Mario Batali, Boby Flay, Julia Child, PaulaDean, Rick Bayless, or Jacques Pépin. They’re great chefs, but there are a lot of greatchefs out there. So why do you know thesefew better than others? Because they shareeverything they know. They put their recipes

in cookbooks and show their techniques oncooking shows.

As a business owner, you should shareeverything you know too. This is theanathema to most in the business world.Businesses are usually paranoid and secretive. They think that they have proprietary this

and competitive advantage that. Maybe afew rare do, but most don’t. And those thatdon’t should stop acting like those that do.Don’t be afraid of sharing.

A recipe is much easier to copy than abusiness. Shouldn’t that scare Mario Batali? Why would he go on TV and show you how hedoes what he does? Why would he put all hisrecipes in cookbooks where anyone can buyand replicate them? Because he knows thoserecipes and techniques aren’t enough to beathim at his own game. No one’s going to buy hiscookbook, open a restaurant next door, andput him out of business. It just doesn’t worklike that. Yet this is what many in the businessworld think will happen if their competitorslearn how they do things. Get over it.

So emulate famous chefs. They cook,
so they write cookbooks. What do youdo? What are your “recipes”? What’s your“cookbook”? What can you tell the worldabout how you operate that’s informative, educational, and promotional?
